Welcome!

A community driven guide to restoring your jibo social robot after the original cloud servers went out. Get jibo back on track, awake and talking.

Warning

Jibo Revival Group is not responsible for any damages made to your robot. You and only you are responsible for your robot and what may happen if you choose to follow through with the mod.

Tip

The Jibo DFU Mod Toolkit does the low level work over USB, and it saves a backup of Jibo’s settings before it changes anything. It’s still low level work though, so just to be safe we recommend making a full backup of your robot too. If you get stuck, write a forum post or join our discord where you can contact others involved with the project!

What you’ll be able to do

• SSH into your jibo as root user
• Install/modify community software such as BEam & Troposphere
• Access to Jibos local ASR (Automatic Speech Recognition) & TTS (Text To Speech) Services
• Build and run custom skills (Work in Progress)
• Use community tools such as Re-Commander, Jibo-LLM, Be-a-Maker, BAM-Scratch, Home Assistant integration etc…
• And connect him to a server again: 5x1, Phoenix, or one you run yourself

I don’t have a Jibo yet

You can look for second hand Jibos on eBay, Facebook marketplace, Vinted and more…. you can also use this tool to fetch Jibos currently on sale from popular websites like eBay and Goodwill.

What do I need

• A Jibo and his power cable. Keep him plugged in the whole time.
• A micro-USB cable that can carry data (some cheap ones only charge)
• A Windows PC, a Mac or a Linux PC. The Jibo DFU Mod Toolkit is a single download for each, and on Windows it sets up what it needs the first time you open it.
• Your Wi-Fi name and password

How it goes

1. Use the DFU Mod Toolkit to connect to Jibo over USB and back him up.
2. Choose a server. 5x1 and Phoenix are both free, and they do things differently.
3. Follow the steps for the one you picked: Connect to 5x1 or Connect to Phoenix.

Already modded your Jibo with JiboAutoMod? That still counts, so skip to step 2. The DFU toolkit replaces JiboAutoMod, but its steps are still here under JiboAutoMod (Legacy).
